Another One Bites The Dust: Netflix Axes Girlboss

After a disappointing first season and mixed reviews, Netflix has canceled Girlboss.

This decision follows Netflix CEO Reed Hastings’ announcement last May to change the streaming service’s typical approach, which previously had a reputation for not canceling shows. While there was a strong fanbase for Girlboss, it apparently was too small to give the show a second season. As Netflix does not release viewership numbers, the only definite benchmark for how well a show does is whether it gets a second season or not.

The Get Down and Sense8 were both cancelled after their first and second seasons, respectively, although those cancellations resulted in much more outcry than Girlboss’ has. Girlboss is the streaming platform’s first comedy series to get canceled.

Inspired by the best-selling book #Girlboss by Nasty Gal creator Sophi Amoruso, the series tells her story of starting out on eBay and growing her fashion brand into a multi-million-dollar clothing empire via social media.
