New on Hulu: All the Movies and TV Coming in March

You say goodbye, and I say Hulu: The green streamer has some exciting new TV shows debuting in the month of March, as well as some worthwhile films, and we’re here to walk you through all of the above.

We’ll begin on the small screen, where one of Hulu’s foremost highlights comes to us from a cinematic mastermind: Devs, the eight-hour limited series from Oscar-nominated Ex Machina and Annihilation writer-director Alex Garland, has its two-episode premiere on March 5 via FX on Hulu. Created, written and directed entirely by Garland, Devs stars Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina) as Lily Chan, a young software engineer who suspects the secret development division of her employer, cutting-edge Silicon Valley tech company Amaya, of having a hand in her boyfriend’s murder; Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation) co-stars as Forest, Amaya’s obsessive CEO. Given Garland’s flair for unsettling, thought-provoking techno-drama, you can color us excited for his TV debut. Just as exciting is the debut of one of Paste’s most-anticipated shows of 2020: Little Fires Everywhere, the Kerry Washington/Reese Witherspoon-led Hulu adaptation of Celeste Ng’s 2017 bestseller of the same name, the first three episodes of which debut March 18. The new series, which Washington and Witherspoon both produce and star in, “follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives,” and “explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood—and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster,” per Hulu’s synopsis. Elsewhere in TV, we have the debut of Lil Dicky’s Curb Your Enthusiasm-esque FX rap game comedy series Dave (March 5), the premiere of Hulu’s “remarkably intimate” Hillary Clinton docuseries Hillary (March 6), the latest, Saint Patrick’s Day-themed episode of Hulu’s monthly horror anthology Into The Dark, “Crawlers” (March 6), the Season 2 and 4 premieres of FX’s Cake and Better Things (March 6), respectively, and Season 10 of FX’s animated spy comedy Archer (March 29), among other additions.

Moving on to movies, Hulu’s slate is highlighted by a pair of notable films released just last year: The more high-profile 2019 title is Pet Sematary (March 19), Hollywood’s latest take on Stephen King’s 1983 horror novel of the same name, starring Jason Clarke, John Lithgow and Amy Seimetz as the small-town family haunted by the fruits of a cursed burial ground—but the 2019 title more worthy of your time is the Sundance award-winning Monos (March 9), Colombia’s official submission in the 92nd Academy Awards’ international feature film category. Directed by Alejandro Landes and featuring a score by Mica Levi (Under the Skin, Jackie), the film is “a breathtaking survivalist saga set on a remote mountain in Latin America” that “examines the chaos and absurdity of war from the unique perspective of adolescence,” per its official synopsis, centering on a group of “teenage commandos [who] perform military training exercises by day and indulge in youthful hedonism by night,” only for their tenuous order to collapse into chaos—Monos earned a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score and 85% audience score, suggesting that folks who took the subtitled leap found it well worthwhile. Films hitting Hulu on the first of the month include Gus Van Sant’s 1997 Oscar winner Good Will Hunting, Liam Neeson-starring Alfred Kinsey biopic Kinsey, early-’90s Mike Myers/Dana Carvey comedy Wayne’s World, Jon Favreau’s quotable dating scene comedy Swingers, Oliver Stone’s Quentin Tarantino-co-written Natural Born Killers, subterranean horror-thrillers The Descent and The Descent: Part 2, Seth Rogen and James Franco’s controversial North Korea comedy The Interview, 2009 Robert De Niro/Al Pacino trainwreck Righteous Kill, Rogen/Joseph Gordon-Levitt dramedy 50/50, 1973’s animated Charlotte’s Web and acclaimed 2009 dramedy Up in the Air. Following those films later in the month are oddball war comedy The Men Who Stare at Goats (March 4), Jennifer Reeder’s 2019 teen noir Knives and Skin (March 6), Pete Davidson-starring Hulu coming-of-age comedy Big Time Adolescence (March 20) and writer-director Sharon Lewis’ feature debut Brown Girl Begins (March 26).

Before we say goodbye, we’ll flag the titles disappearing from Hulu’s library come March 31: Eyes Wide Shut, When Harry Met Sally, Big Fish, The French Connection, Precious, Mud, Blood Diamond, Pi, Meet Joe Black and Suburbicon are all on their way out, among others, so plan accordingly.
