New on Hulu: All the Movies and TV Coming in June

Given the ubiquity of HBO’s Game of Thrones these past few weeks, we’d forgive you for thinking it was the only television show, but there’s plenty more where that came from, including the programming headed to Hulu in June. TV and film titles en route to the green streamer are many, but we’re here to help spotlight a few standouts.

Hulu’s foremost June addition is The Handmaid’s Tale, the streamer’s original series adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel of the same name, returning for a third season on June 5. The Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning show’s latest entry centers on “June’s (Elisabeth Moss) resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead and her struggle to strike back against overwhelming odds. Startling reunions, betrayals and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead force all characters to take a stand, guided by one defiant prayer: ‘Blessed be the fight,’ as Hulu summarizes. The Handmaid’s Tale has been touching sociopolitical nerves since its debut in 2017, but with attacks on reproductive rights proliferating right now, its harrowing vision of a world in which women are systematically robbed of agency has never hit harder. Other highlights of Hulu’s TV slate include: the series premiere of Hulu original The Weekly (June 3), a half-hour docuseries in which New York Times journalists investigate pressing issues; the ninth episode of Into The Dark (June 7), Hulu’s Blumhouse-produced horror anthology that streams a new, holiday-related installment each month—the latest, “They Come Knocking,” debuts on Father’s Day; the complete fourth season of SyFy’s series adaptation of 12 Monkeys (June 15); the debut season of Sonar’s Das Boot (June 17), a brutal survival story set during World War II; and various broadcast TV series and season premieres, the particulars of which you’ll find down below. Pay-cable subscribers who access their premium channels through Hulu can also catch new episodes of HBO’s Big Little Lies (June 9), Starz’s The Rook (June 30) and Showtime’s The Loudest Voice (June 30), to name a few.

On the feature film side of the equation, Hulu isn’t exactly slacking: There’s a litany of worthwhile movies arriving on June 1 alone, including Hulu original documentary Ask Dr. Ruth, 1996’s original Mission: Impossible, Kathryn Bigelow crime thriller Point Break, classic Steve Martin/John Candy odd-couple comedy Planes, Trains & Automobiles, iconic Quentin Tarantino heist film Reservoir Dogs, Joe Dante’s cul-de-sac-set dark comedy The ‘Burbs, explosive alien attack blockbuster Independence Day, Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring action-comedy Kindergarten Cop, a pair of Bret Easton Ellis adaptations in American Psycho and Less Than Zero, raunchy restaurant comedy Waiting… and eight Friday the 13th films for you horror-heads. That’s just the first of the month, mind you: Arriving later on in June are Natalie Portman-led pop star drama Vox Lux (June 3), Neill Blomkamp’s Oscar-nominated breakout District 9 (June 4), Johnny Knoxville and company’s loud and lewd Jackass 3 (June 4), Best Picture-winning historical rom-com Shakespeare in Love (June 6), Adam McKay’s divisive 2019 Dick Cheney drama Vice (June 10), Robert DeNiro-directed FBI drama The Good Shepherd (June 16), Nick Hornby adaptation Juliet, Naked (June 24) and the Coen Brothers’ acclaimed 2010 take on True Grit (June 30), among others.

Don’t leave this post … ever … or at least until you’ve absorbed the list of titles leaving Hulu next month, too. You have until June 30 to catch another Coen Brothers must-see in 1991’s Barton Fink, found-footage horror game-changer Paranormal Activity, cutthroat David Cronenberg crime thriller Eastern Promises, Oscar-winning Civil War drama Cold Mountain, recently remade family adventure Jumanji, Tony Scott’s Tom Cruise-starring stock-car racer Days of Thunder, George Miller-helmed family feature Happy Feet, Dennis Hopper’s psychedelic late-’60s road trip Easy Rider and Cheech & Chong’s stoner-comedy classic Up in Smoke, among others. Alright, you can go now.
