The year-long wait is almost over. The first teaser for the final season of Jessica Jones has been released and offers a glimpse at a new villain.

The 13 new episodes, slated for release on June 14, has a set-up fans are used to seeing: Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) fighting off yet another “highly intelligent psychopath,” according to the new season’s official synopsis. This villain promises to force a wedge between Jessica and her sister, Trish (Rachael Taylor), as they grapple with their conflicting definitions of what it means to be a hero.

“Jessica & Trish team up to take down a highly intelligent psychopath, but a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both,” the synopsis explains.

In the season three trailer, a knock at the door leads Jessica to her final adversary, a still-unnamed villain who pounds on the door of her apartment-turned-detective agency. In 14 seconds of fast cuts through intervals of red-tinted light and darkness, Jessica is branded a fraud, a cheater.

“Sometimes not even ‘heroes’ can save themselves,” the trailer’s announcement explains.

The Peabody-winning Marvel show is one of the last standing in the Marvel-Netflix partnership after Netflix’s purge of the Defenders post-Disney+ announcement. While Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones once stood at the helm of the partnership, each are starting to fold up shop after Disney announced the launch of its competitive steaming platform that will host its own Marvel series.

While there hasn’t been word from Disney about if it plans on continuing the Defenders shows slewhere, the entertainment giant will be required to wait several years for Netflix to lose exclusive rights to the shows.

But not all is lost. The existing seasons of Jessica Jones and the rest of the Defenders gang will still be available for streaming in the meantime.
