Netflix Announces (Another) Price Hike

Please, stop us if you’ve heard this before: Netflix is raising the prices of some of their subscription plans. While the basic plan will stay at $7.99, the standard plan allowing for HD content and two simultaneous devices will go from $9.99 to $10.99. Meanwhile, the premium plan that allows for Ultra HD 4K streaming and four devices will go from $11.99 to $13.99.

This price hike (as reported by Mashable) will come into effect in November of this year, with the exact day depending on the billing cycles of individual customers. Netflix users will be given 30 days of advance notice starting on Oct. 19.

Netflix released a statement on the price hike:

“From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster.”

With increasing competition from services like Amazon Prime, Hulu and HBO Go, as well as a number of new shows and movies exclusive to the service, Netflix is continuing to grow and expand at an absurd rate. This even comes after the service lost a good number of subscribers after another price hike back in 2015—still, content like Stranger Things helped to keep Netflix afloat.
