Spotlight‘s Tom McCarthy Will Direct Selena Gomez’s New Netflix Series

Tom McCarthy has signed on to direct and produce Selena Gomez’s upcoming Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, according to Deadline. To be clear, Gomez is not set to act in the series—she will serve as executive producer.

It was Gomez’s idea to adapt Jay Asher’s best-selling YA novel for the screen; she brought it to Anonymous Content and Paramount TV for production. The novel tells the story of a teenage boy who receives a series of tapes from a classmate that explain the various factors that led to her suicide.

Sounds cheerful enough, right?
