Droughtlander is Over, Yet Everyone is Still Tense in Outlander‘s Season Three Trailer

The new Outlander trailer shows a supercut of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) waiting around ever since rejoining her original timeline in the 1940s. She is still pregnant with Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) baby, yet comes to an agreement with Frank (Tobias Menzies) to raise the child as their own. In the trailer, 20 years flash by as the baby Brianna (Sophie Skelton) grows up and neither Frank nor Claire can forget whose child she really is. At one point Frank yells, “The bargain was that we raise this child together, and you will not let me in.” As previously announced, the drama’s third season will examine how Jamie and Claire’s lives changed drastically during the years between her return to her own time and the events of the season two finale.

In the 18th century, Jamie isn’t doing well either, stuck in the Redcoats’ base after being betrayed. Meanwhile Claire turns to the archives to follow Jamie’s life before deciding she “wants to come back.” While the season is based on author Diana Gabaldon’s third book Voyager, Outlander’s showrunner Ronald D. Moore has suggested the series may not follow the source material too closely. “Our goal is still to try and be as faithful as we can to the books. [That’s] the way we started the project. I think the longer that you go, the more the TV series inevitably veers from the book and certain plot lines then take on a life of their own.”

Outlander season three premieres on Starz Sunday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. EDT. Watch the new trailer above.
