Ryan Murphy’s Pose Adds Four More Cast Members

Ryan Murphy’s Pose, his umpteenth show for FX, assembled a diverse cast that includes five transgender performers in series regular roles, a record for scripted television. FX has now announced four more cast members to round out the ensemble, all familiar names to television viewers. Evan Peters and Kate Mara are included, both previously appearing in Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s American Horror Story, along with James Van Der Beek and Emmy-winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black).

Peters and Mara will portray a New Jersey couple who, per FX’s press release, “get sucked into the glamour and intrigue of New York City in the 1980s.” Van Der Beek takes the role of Peters’ character’s kingpin financial boss. Finally, Maslany will play a modern dance teacher with a liking for the character of Damon, portrayed by previously announced cast member Ryan Jamaal Swain. Choreographer Ryan Heffington (Sia’s “Chandelier” video, The OA) will choreograph dance sequences with Maslany and Swain.

Pose will depict several facets of life in 1980s New York City, including “the ballroom scene, and the art and financial boom of the later part of the decade.” As previously announced, the series will begin to shoot its pilot on location in New York next month.
