Prepare to Be Pepper-Sprayed with Fun in Hulu’s Shrill Teaser

On Thursday afternoon, Hulu released its first teaser for the forthcoming comedy Shrill, an adaptation of Seattle writer Lindy West’s memoir Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman.

The six-episode series stars Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant as Annie, an overweight young woman just kicking off her career in journalism. She’s determined to change her hectic life, but not her body, dealing with shitty boyfriends, a nit-picky boss and a sick parent, all while trying to make her mark as a writer.

Other cast members include Lolly Adefope (The Spy Who Dumped Me), Luka Jones (People of Earth), Ian Owens (The B.S. Club), John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Patti Harrison (A Simple Favor), Julia Sweeney (a character actress who’s cropped up in Sex and the City and Frasier) and Daniel Stern (yes, Marv of Home Alone fame).

Showrunner and executive producer Ali Rushfield is co-writing the series with West (also executive producing) and Bryant. Lorne Michaels, Elizabeth Banks, Andrew Singer of Broadway Video and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions are serving as executive producers, as well.

The teaser is just over 30 seconds of fun, from pepper spray to an interrupted sexy Facetime call, to the brilliant one-liner, “I don’t apologize to white people.”

All six episodes of Shrill land on Hulu March 15, which means we’re sincerely looking forward to the ides of March this year. Watch the teaser for Shrill and revisit Bryant’s 2017 interview at the Paste Studio below.
