Streaming sites have been increasingly signing major Hollywood talent to make original content for them, and Netflix has just added another superstar director to their roster, which already boasts Jonathan Demme, David Ayer, Christopher Guest and Baz Luhrmann. Spike Lee will be adapting She’s Gotta Have It, his 1986 feature film, into a series for Netflix.
This will be Lee’s first foray into series television. He’ll be directing all ten episodes of the first season, which will follow Nola, a woman who refuses to commit to any of the three men she’s seeing. It’ll be interesting to see how the movie’s sexual politics are adapted to fit modern culture, thirty years after its original release.
As of now, there is no release date or casting announced for the series.
