The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance‘s World of Thra Stuns in New Extended Trailer

An extended trailer for Netflix’s forthcoming fantasy series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, has arrived. We were ill-prepared for how incredible the whole thing looks. There’s a lot happening here, but every sumptuous detail pops; the world of Thra feels fantastical and lived-in at once. Quick cuts reveal a menagerie of creatures large and small in a landscape not unlike our own Iceland—the go-to for modern filmmakers seeking that otherworldly look.

Best of all, the much-ballyhooed combination of CG and puppetry just works. Rian (Taron Egerton) and his fellow Gelflings still have a (truly) charming awkwardness to their movements, a “these are physical things” tell that is inexplicably impressive. “Join me,” Rian entreats his fellow Gelflings, “and we may finally unite as one against our true foe.” Where do we sign up?

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is directed by Louis Leterrier (The Transporter) and features an extensive voice cast. Included are Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Donna Kimball, Alice Dinnean, Louise Gold, Neil Sterenberg and Victor Yerrid. We weren’t kidding with that extensive comment.
