Netflix is Adapting Classic Horror Novel The Haunting of Hill House Into a Series

Netflix has added another series to its roster in the form of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 horror novel, The Haunting of Hill House. It’s still in the early stages of production, but Mike Flanagan, no stranger to Netflix or horror films, will be at the helm of the 10-episode series.

The Haunting of Hill House has been widely regarded as one of the greatest horror novels of all time, telling the story of four people who stay the summer in a rented mansion as part of an investigation into paranormal happenings. It’s been adapted twice on the big screen, once in 1963 and again in 1999, both as The Haunting. The 1963 film is by and large the superior version, shot in a stunning black-and-white that really captures the terror of the novel. The 1999 version is a sad, CGI-bloated Liam Neeson vehicle that just isn’t the same. So we’re hoping for more of the former. Flanagan proved his horror chops with Hush, an excellent, trope-defying horror flick, and we all know Netflix’s track record for their original series: i.e., it’s pretty great. Please let the series be more of the same.
