Amazon Reveals First-Look Photos, Episode Lineup for Matthew Weiner’s New Series The Romanoffs

We already got a “Romanoffs”-heavy teaser trailer for Matthew Weiner’s forthcoming Amazon Prime anthology series The Romanoffs earlier this month, but we’re now also getting first-look photos and a full episode lineup ahead of its Oct. 12 premiere.

The Romanoffs will roll out on a weekly basis starting with two new episodes, “The Violet Hour” and “The Royal We,” debuting on Friday, Oct. 12.

Created, written, directed and executive produced by Mad Men mastermind Weiner, The Romanoffs will follow eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. The series flexes a stacked international cast, including the likes of Oscar nominee Isabelle Huppert, Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, and Mad Men alums John Slattery and Christina Hendricks, and was shot on location across three continents.

It’s hard to imagine a showrunner less esteemed than nine-time Emmy winner Weiner getting the blank check to make such an audacious project, especially without Amazon’s deep pockets. It might be too early to tell whether the new series will rival Mad Men or even gain any traction, but if nothing else, the sheer scale of this production is certainly impressive.
