Masks Save Lives in Mysterious New Teaser Images for HBO’s Watchmen Series

HBO has released two new teaser images for its highly anticipated Watchmen series, from Lost and The Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof, and based on the seminal comics by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

The first of the two teaser images, shared on Instagram, shows a line of yellow-masked Tulsa, Okla., police officers, and comes with the mysterious caption, “Masks Save Lives.”

The second features a lone yellow-masked officer in front of a police car, and is captioned, “Hiding in plain sight.”

Last month, series creator Lindelof shared a first-look image of a yellow-masked police figure, although the latest images provide a clearer look and reveal that the figure is a uniform-wearing member of the Tulsa police force.

While the new images don’t offer much in the way of clues to the plot of the forthcoming series, there’s a solid chance that the mysterious figure in the second image is Tim Blake Nelson’s Looking Glass, a new character introduced in the forthcoming HBO series who doesn’t appear in the original comics.

Nelson has previously said that Lindelof was being cautious about revealing character details during production, although his character, Looking Glass, reportedly came with the following description in a casting call:

A good-looking cop, the native Oklahoman isn’t simple as his rural accent makes him appear to be. A top interrogator and behavioral scientist, he may also be a bit of a sociopath.

Production is currently underway in the Atlanta area on the Watchmen series, which is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in 2019.
