Non-COMMvention Offers Encouraging State Of The Industry
Each year at the end of May, as Philly starts to heat up, representatives from non-commerical radio all over North America gather to celebrate the best of what's next (Hey, what a great idea!) in music and to discuss the state of the industry. This year was no different. Last weekend, WXPN, the University of Pennsylvania's member-supported radio station, hosted the 9th annual Non-COMMvention. WXPN, everyone's favorite non-commercial radio station out of the University of Pennsylvania, has announced plans to start a new radio and web-based series called "Power of Song." In preparation for his upcoming flick The Rocker, The Office laureate Rainn Wilson will be appearing on Philadelphia's WXPN radio this Friday at 8 p.m. for the station's Y-Rock program. DJ Schrute will be spinning "his favorite alternative and indie rock tunes" on a show aptly titled the Rainn Wilson Radio Takeover. XPN is 88.5 on the FM band in Philly, and those of us not fortunate enough to hail from the city of brotherly love can tune in online at the Y-Rock website.... read more

There’s a little corner of the radio world called “triple A” music - it covers a lot of the stuff we at Paste like. On the radio dial, that world is usually on public or non-commercial stations - often NPR-affiliated. So these radio stations gather once a year to hear new music and discuss what's going on in the industry and sometimes we join them to eavesdrop on their annual “Non-Commvention” hosted by our friends at WXPN 88.5 in Philadelphia.
