Play as a Man or Woman in New Prey, Which Has “No Tie with the Original”
“Prey is not a sequel, it’s not a remake, it has no tie with the original."
Image via BethesdaPrey, the sci-fi thriller from Arkane Studios (Dishonored), has no ties with the original Prey, released back in 2006. Rather than being representative of any conception people have with Prey, Raphael Colantonio, president and creative director of Arkane Studios, describes the title simply as an Arkane game.
“Arkane has always the same values in the kinds of games we make, and a game that will be defined as an Arkane game is a game where simulation is very important, where the choices of the player is very important,” Colantonio says in a new video on Bethesda’s YouTube channel. He continues:
It’s not horror; the psychological thrill dimension is more around the theme of identity, who are you exactly as Morgan Yu. When we started the project I wanted to call him, or her, Morgan, the reason being you can choose at the beginning of the game if you want to play a female or male character.
Colantonio also goes on to stress that the game will not be just shooting. “It’s more like a hybrid game,” he says, “where narrative meets with action meets with an RPG layer.”
It’s great to see the choice to play as a woman included in Prey, similarly to Arkane’s other in-development game, Dishonored 2. The new Prey is due out in 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
