Psychonauts PSVR Game Gets Release Date
Images via Double FineDeveloper Double Fine has announced that their VR title, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, will release on Feb. 21.
Revealed back in 2015, the game serves as a bridge between the stories of 2005’s Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2, which is planned to release in 2018. The VR title sees returning protagonist Raz using his psychic powers to save his friends from the titular rhombus (which is a mysterious and dangerous part of the ocean).
Gameplay is centered around the perspective of stationary Raz, who can also see through his friends’ eyes thanks to his Clairvoyance ability. Players will also have to make use of classic powers like Pyrokinesis and Telekinesis to solve the game’s puzzles.
Meanwhile, Double Fine is aiming for a Q3 release next year for the long-anticipated Psychonauts 2, whose crowdfunding campaign last year via Fig met the highest crowdfunding goal in videogame history. The sequel, which is being developed in Unreal 4 engine, is receiving funding from an unknown third party as well as Double Fine themselves.
If you never got around to playing the first entry in the series, or if it has been around a decade since you’ve played, a digital port of the PS2 version is currently available on PS4. But first, go ahead and check out the 360-degree trailer for Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin below:
