Last year, New York’s music and nightlife scene suffered an immeasurable loss when Billy Jones passed away after a battle with brain cancer. Jones was best known for owning and operating Williamsburg hotspot Baby’s All Right, which hosted early-career shows from stars like Billie Eilish, SZA, Mac Demarco, and Blood Orange, and has since become a must-play locale for up-and-coming bands. It’s even been immortalized in song by the likes of Lorde and Samia. In addition to his work with Baby’s, Jones sang in the band Other Passengers, booked shows at the Dance, Elvis, and Sin-E, and helped open Night Club 101 and Funny Bar.
Just shy of a year since Jones’s passing, his family has unveiled the Billy Jones Forever Foundation, a scholarship and mentorship organization helping support the city’s working musicians. Each year, a select group of applicants to the Foundation will be connected with a network of music industry professionals and receive direct financial support to help with equipment, housing, and travel funds.
In a statement from Jones’s family, his sister BreAnn Tassone said: “Billy was devoted to music, to New York and to the creative, talented dreamers and risk takers who make this city what it is. Though he had to leave us, he still has work to do. We are excited and grateful to know he can still do the work he was so passionate about through the recipients of this organization. We are so proud that Billy’s legacy is one of connection, inspiration and community.”
