Star Room Boys Frontman Dave Marr Will Release First Album in 15 Years; Debuts New Video

It’s been 15 years since Chicago-born musician Dave Marr has visited the studio to record some new tunes. The frontman for the Athens-based, seminal alt-country band Star Room Boys first made a name for himself when he began playing alongside guitarist Doug Hollingsworth after forming the group in 1995. The Star Room Boys underwent multiple line-up changes in their time together, including replacing Hollingsworth with Philip McArdle and eventually settling with pedal steel guitarist Johnny Neff, bassist John McMahon and drummer Bob Fernandez. The band later broke up in 2002. Now Marr’s often melancholic lyrics are set to return with a new album.

In celebration of the new songs, Marr will debut the video for his new track “Thank You” at the Athens Slingshot Festival. Marr and his new band are also set to play a gig during the Normaltown Records Showcase at the Caledonia Lounge in Athens on March 28. The video, which can be viewed above, was directed by the Atlanta-based filmmaker Jim Issa and features a return to form for Marr.

Check out the video for “Thank You” above and make sure to catch Marr at the Caledonia Lounge.
