The Premiere Of FX’s Basket Had More Viewers Than Any Cable Comedy Series Since 2014

TV News

After years of basically playing a clown, Zack Galifianakis finally plays an actual clown—and it got the public’s attention.

Baskets, the new FX series Galifianakis created with Louis C.K. and Jonathan Grisel, premiered last Thursday to a TV audience of 1.05 million adults aged 18-49 and a total audience of 1.75 million. It was the most-viewed debut for a basic cable series since 2014, when Married garnered 1.12 million TV viewers.

Galifianakis pulls double duty on the show, playing both Chip Baskets, a clown who fails out of his Parisian clown school and comes home to Bakersfield to work at the local rodeo, and his twin brother, Dale. The next episode of the series will air this Thursday.
