Alice in Chains, Mastodon, Mars Volta Members Unite to Form New Group, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra

With a Name like that, We're Expecting Some Extra Long Licks

Music News

No, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra is not a new educational kid’s band a la the Wiggles. It’s the most recent project by several iconic rock players: Alice in Chains singer William DuVall, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, Dethklok bassist Pete Griffin, and former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen.

The epic collaboration was conceived last year when Hinds, Weinman, Griffin and Pridgen united to work on a full-length album. Early on in the sessions, Juliette Lewis joined them as the voice of the project, but ultimately they decided on DuVall to serve as their lead singer. Lewis’ vocals will still be featured on some of the tracks of the forthcoming LP.

It remains unclear when the album is slated for release, but according to the ever-trusty instaworld, the supergroup is still banging away in the studio.
