Johnny Gallagher – Two Fists Full

Broadway darling/renaissance man Johnny Gallagher Jr. made his way into the Paste studio. Watch him perform “Sarasota Someone,” “Two Fists Full,” and “Dangerous Strangers,” all off his debut album, Six Day Hurricane.

Although released on Jan. 18 of this year, Six Day Hurricane was recorded in 2012, right as Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast. In an interview with Billboard, Gallagher says, “The recording studio was in Greenpoint in Brooklyn and didn’t get any damage; the power stayed on. So it was this weird, kind of somber energy where the whole eastern seaboard was mourning and recuperating from this terrible force of nature. And while that thing was happening, we were holed up in the studio recording.”

A man of many hats, Gallagher Jr. can practically be found everywhere. He’s starred in prime television series The Newsroom and Olive Kitteridge, played Johnny in Green Day’s Broadway musical American Idiot, and won a Tony award for his role as Moritz Stiefel in Spring Awakening. You can currently see him in theaters starring alongside John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield Lane. Next month, he’ll perform alongside Jessica Lange in Long Day’s Journey Into Night at the American Airlines Theater.
