San Francisco “Ball Pit Bar” Is the Latest Crazy Themed Bar

Drink News San Francisco

From geek to chocolate bars, alcohol aficionados are finding more and more creative ways to generate that perfect after-hours atmosphere. For San Francisco-based company Forward Motion, that means mixing our outer adult with our inner child by way of the “ball pit bar.”

The concept offers attendees the chance to submerge themselves in both conversation and 40,000 colorful plastic balls while sipping on brightly colored cocktails and playing “childish” drinking games. The pop-up event, which took place over two days last weekend, was a year in the making, according to Forward Motion founder Ryan Lum.

“It took a little over a year to actually make it happen as the biggest obstacle was trying to raise enough money to purchase 40,000 ball pit balls,” Lum shared in an interview with Mashable. “After several failed crowdfunding attempts, I decided to just start selling tickets to [the] event that didn’t even exist. It took a long time trying to raise the money but it was all worth it in the end.” Sounds extremely responsible.

Although the organization was founded back in 2015, the idea for the bar came to Lum after a conversation with the owner of San Francisco’s The Romper Room. The first event was apparently so successful that Lum has plans to host another “ball pit” night in April at San Francisco nightclub Monarch.

“I talked to many of the attendees as they left the ball pit with a huge smile on their faces,” Lum told Mashable. “I overheard people saying things like, ‘my inner child is so happy right now’. People loved the idea [and] wanted to know if there will be more.”
