Emily Blunt-Starring Thriller The Girl on the Train Gets Unsettling First Trailer

This first-look trailer for upcoming thriller The Girl on the Train offers audiences a glimpse of a dark web of secrets and lies following the mysterious disappearance of one young woman. The taut, unsettling clip, set to a slowed-down version of Kanye West’s “Heartless,” appears to promise Gone Girl 2.0.

Based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, the Tate Taylor-directed big-screen adaptation follows Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt), the last person to see Meghan Hipwell (Haley Bennett)—a nanny and self-described “mistress of self-reinvention”—alive. On a train ride home, Watson sees Hipwell walk off underneath a bridge with an unrecognizable man and later comes forward with what she knows after Hipwell’s body is found in the woods. What begins as an effort to find her killer quickly spirals into a complicated mesh of clandestine relationships, missing time and deadly decisions.

The Universal Pictures thriller also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, Lisa Kudrow and Laura Prepon, with Erin Cressida Wilson and director Taylor adapting the film’s script. The Girl on the Train hits theaters on Oct. 7. Watch the chilling trailer above.
