Will Ferrell to Play Former President in Reagan

Movies News Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell is a man known for putting on a good political face. That includes his memorable impersonation of George W. Bush for Saturday Night Live and his recent role opposite Zack Galifianakis in The Campaign.

Now, the comedian and star of too many box office hits to count will get to embody another prominent political figure: former US president Ronald Reagan. Ferrell is slated to play the former actor and Republican commander-in-chief in the Black List-favorite film Reagan, Variety first reported.

The political comedy, which was penned by Mike Rosolio, was one of the stronger scripts on the annual list of Hollywood’s top unproduced screenplays. Last month, it received a live reading that featured actors John Cho, Lena Dunham, Nathan Fillion and James Brolin as Reagan.

Reagan’s story follows the ex-president through the beginning of his second term as his dementia begins to set in. An ambitious intern—a role which has yet to be cast—must convince the president that he is an actor playing the president in a movie. It’s a rather fitting vision of comedic inception that Ferrell will also produce under his Gary Sanchez Productions banner.

No director is attached at this time, but the script is being shopped to several studios. We’re crossing our fingers for Adam McKay.
