If you miss watching new episodes of True Detective on HBO, your dreams might be coming true soon. Matthew McConaughey, who played Rust Cohle in the series’ excellent first season, revealed on The Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday that he was speaking with series creator Nic Pizzolatto about reviving the Emmy-winning show for a third season.

“I miss Rust Cohle, man,” said McConaughey in the interview. “I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights … I was a happy man when we made that for six months.”

In late May, HBO confirmed that they were unlikely to renew True Detective for another season after the show’s second season failed to meet fans’ expectations (putting it politely). However, HBO stated that they are interested in working with Pizzolatto on another future project, including non-True Detective concepts.

McConaughey noted that if a season three were created, however, “it would have to be the right context, the right way.”
