Apple in Talks to Buy Out TIDAL from Jay Z

Music News Jay-Z

Rhapsody is a no. Samsung is a no. Apple is a maybe.

Jay Z’s months-long quest to sell his streaming platform TIDAL (which he bought in March of 2015) has not been an easy one, but Apple may be the buyer he’s been looking for.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Apple is interested in bringing in TIDAL to bolster its own platform, Apple Music, because of its exclusive access to artists such as Beyonce, Kanye West and Rihanna. The negotiations are still in the early stages and, per the report, “may not result in a deal.”

Apple has responded to TIDAL’s tactics by signing Drake and Chance the Rapper to exclusive deals for their latest albums.

This latest news of Apple comes in the wake of the company being accused of violating anti-trust laws, and Spotify has filed a complaint with Congress against the company. Apple scooping up TIDAL would certainly turn the tide of the streaming wars.
