Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled Begins Production, Gets Release Date

Sofia Coppola’s next film finally has a release date. The Beguiled will open in select cities on June 23, 2017 before going wide a week later on June 30. The Beguiled is based on Thomas Cullinan’s novel of the same name, and was previously adapted into a film in 1971 starring Clint Eastwood.

The film tells the story of a wounded Union soldier who is taken in by a girl’s school in the South during the Civil War. The film has begun production in Louisiana, and was written and directed by Coppola, whose previous films include Lost in Translation and The Bling Ring.

The Beguiled stars Colin Farrell in the central role, and also stars Elle Fanning, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman, Oona Laurence, Emma Howard, Addison Riecke and Angourie Rice.
