Stranger Things Adds Sean Astin, Paul Reiser for Second Season

Stranger Things has been out of our lives for far too long already. Thankfully, news about the show’s second season keeps trickling out, and today that trickle was heavy. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show has cast three roles for its forthcoming second season.

The first of these was filled by Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen (Teenland), who was cast as Roman. According to Netflix, Roman is described as “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab … ”

Although it isn’t explicitly stated, Roman sounds like she’ll have a lot in common with Eleven. Millie Bobby Brown, the actress who plays Eleven, was recently confirmed to return to her role for the show’s second season, but it sounds like she may have some company.

Sean Astin, a member of the cast of The Goonies, which Stranger Things borrowed from heavily, has also joined the cast as Bob Newby. Newby is described as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.” Given the kids’ love of technology, it’s not a total shock they would wind up at a Radioshack.

The third role will be filled by Paul Reiser (Aliens), who has been cast as Dr. Owens. Owens is described as “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” Given that Dr. Brenner’s fate is still up in the air, there may be a new nefarious doctor in town.

Stranger Things season two will premiere on Netflix in 2017.
