Jeff Tweedy Shares Song From New Solo Acoustic Album Together at Last

Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy’s got a lot of material in his back catalog. He’s got the 10 albums with Wilco, plus the four with Uncle Tupelo, plus the one with his son on drums, and a couple with Golden Smog and The Minus 5.

So it feels logical that Tweedy would eventually marshal some of that music and rework it for an album. That’s exactly what he’s done with the forthcoming Together at Last. And our first taste of the record isn’t a Wilco or Uncle Tupelo track, but one from his work with Loose Fur. In its new form, “Laminated Cat” is a bluesy and unadorned number that’s just Tweedy strumming on guitar, crooning about “waiting out your weekends” and finding the beauty in bending sun beams. As often as Tweedy deftly piles on musical accoutrements, it’s nice to hear him just break everything down to the essentials.
