Finn Wolfhard won over the hearts of millions last summer, when the world was introduced to a group of misfit kids named Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will and Eleven. As Stranger Things’ popularity grew, the child actors were booking every interview imaginable, and fans got to know each kid’s personality, quirks and talents.
For Finn, those talents are shredding on the guitar and singing like a teenage rock star. Pair that with an impeccable taste in music, and you’ve got the coolest 14-year-old around. Need some proof? Here’s his five coolest musical moments.
1. Casually Covering Nirvana’s “Lithium” on Twitter
A month after the world started binge-watching Stranger Things, Finn went to Twitter to show off his guitar playing skills. In August of 2016, the internet let out a resounding “Awww” as the boy we came to know as “Mike” proved that he was even cooler than we originally thought by posting a casual 20-second-long clip of him strumming the guitar melody of Nirvana’s “Lithium,” a song that came out more than a decade before the young actor was born.
2. Recreating Weezer's “Buddy Holly” on Lip Sync Battle
With the world eagerly awaiting the second season of Stranger Things, the cast may be the most famous adolescents around. Finn, along with Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) and Noah Schnapp (Will), were all recently featured on Spike's Lip Sync Battle.
While Gaten and Noah showed their ages by choosing Train's “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” and Maroon 5's “Moves Like Jagger,” respectively, Noah praised the show's host LL Cool J by performing “I'm Bad” and Finn further proved his coolness by recreating Weezer's iconic “Buddy Holly” music video.
3. Starring in Not One, but Two PUP Music Videos
Finn is Canadian, so naturally he's going to like all the cool new music coming out of his home country. Two years before Stranger Things introduced him to the world, he starred in PUP's “Guilt Trip” video, playing a young version of the band's vocalist, Stephen Babcock.
In November of 2016, he popped up in the Toronto-based punks' follow-up video, “Sleep in the Heat.” Now much more well known, this video blew up because it starred “The Stranger Things Kid.”
4. Shredding Hard at a Mac DeMarco Concert
There's no question that Finn loves Mac DeMarco—he's posted a cover “Salad Days” on Twitter and the two have been known to text from time to time—but at a recent show in Atlanta, his fandom soared to new heights…literally.
During the fellow Canadian's performance of “Still Together,” the 14-year-old wailed on the guitar while sitting high on Mac's shoulders. His on-screen big sister Natalia Dyer was also in attendance and caught some footage of what she called, “this lil monster shredding.” And yes, that is Steve from Stranger Things stage diving in the second Instagram video.

5. Covering New Order’s “Age of Consent” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” at Strange ‘80s Benefit Concert
The moment we’ve all been waiting for happened in Los Angeles this Mother’s Day. Finn hosted Strange ‘80s—a benefit for Sweet Relief, a charity that helps provide financial assistance to career musicians who struggle to pay their bills while plagued with illness or disability—but he didn’t only emcee, he performed as well.
The highlight of the evening was his rendition of New Order’s “Age of Consent,” where attendees were able to witness not only his guitar skills, but also his vocal prowess. The night ended with a group sing along of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” where the teenage wonder once again proved he’s got some vocal chops.
