Star Wars fans and casuals alike have been in turmoil ever since the unexpected death of Carrie Fisher. As shameful as it may be, one of the biggest questions left on everyone’s minds is what Lucasfilm will do with Princess Leia in the ninth film. The void left by Fisher’s passing has not only been felt in Hollywood, but is still reverberating through the Star Wars community.
Director Colin Trevorrow recently spoke with Cinemablend to promote his forthcoming movie The Book of Henry. During the interview, Trevorrow was asked about filming the ninth and final film without Fisher, and her future in both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Episode IX.
“It was extremely sad for all of us, mostly just because she was so loved by the Star Wars family and everyone that worked with her,” Trevorrow said. The director admitted he and the crew were limited by refusing to go to extreme measures. It had already been confirmed they were not using CGI to recreate Princess Leia, nor would they repurpose unused footage from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
