Jack White’s new PBS docuseries, American Epic, has already proved to be full of amazing performances and killer collaborations, with artists like Nas and Alabama Shakes. In the latest clip from the series, Elton John sits down at the piano, with White beside him on electric guitar, for a new blues song called “Two Fingers of Whiskey.”
Incredibly, John composes the song live on camera, using lyrics that his longtime writing partner, Bernie Taupin, has just handed him. White adds accompaniment and the two press the tune direct to wax, recording in a way no artist has in 90 years.
American Epic, produced by White, T-Bone Burnett and Robert Redford, explores the music recordings of the 1920s and what they mean today, featuring performances with names big and small. Other performers include Beck, Willie Nelson, The Avett Brothers and Taj Mahal. Check out the trailer for the docuseries here.
The PBS series premiered its first installment on May 16. The American Epic Sessions full documentary will premiere June 6 on PBS, and its accompanying soundtrack will be released on June 9.
