Lilly Hiatt, daughter of critically acclaimed singer-songwriter John Hiatt, is about to make her New West Records debut, and it’s going to be one for the books.
Hiatt, who is known for her confessional lyrics and charming Southern twang, released the video for “Trinity Lane,” the first single and title track from her forthcoming album, via Rolling Stone just last month. Lucky for you, you can now watch the Paste-exclusive video for the next song from Hiatt’s record, “The Night David Bowie Died,” right here, right now.
“The Night David Bowie Died” is about just that: the night David Bowie died. The song tells a story of Hiatt’s experiences from the moment she heard of Ziggy Stardust’s passing.
“The night David Bowie died, I was in disbelief. I wanted to talk to someone, but it was too late to make a phone call,” says Hiatt. “I cried quietly and went to bed. The next day, I picked up my guitar and hit record on Garage Band. I started to sing and those were the first words that came out. I felt like Bowie was giving me a little gift.”
