Jon Stewart Announces His Return to Stand-Up

Jon Stewart is finally returning to TV with his first comedy stand-up specials in more than 20 years.

The former Daily Show host inked a four-year exclusive deal with HBO back in 2015. The first venture of the partnership was set to be a short form animated news series before it was scrapped a few months ago.

Now, Stewart is set to headline two comedy specials for HBO, his first since Jon Stewart: Unleavened in 1996.

Dates and locations for the performances have yet to be announced, but HBO programming president Casey Bloys said “We’re excited to bring Jon to the network with this pair of specials. We’ve all missed his uniquely thoughtful brand of humor,” during the Television Critics Association press tour. And he is definitely not alone on that one.

“I’m really thrilled to be able to return to stand-up on HBO. They’ve always set the standard for great stand-up specials. Plus, I can finally use up the last of the Saddam Hussein jokes left over from my first special.” said Stewart. However, considering the headlines the current administration has caused over the last few months, we doubt there will be any shortage of content for the missed comedic genius.
