Exclusive Image Comics Preview: Paradiso Is the Post-Apocalyptic Cyborg Odyssey We’ve All Been Waiting For

Announced this morning, Image’s latest genre-bender isn’t a comic you so much explain as one you feel. Written by Ram V, illustrated by Devmalya Pramanik and lettered by Aditya Bidikar, Paradiso revolves around a mysterious Midnight Event that may or may not have resulted in sociopathic cyborgs who emit lasers from their faces. The first issue jumps between the past and present of protagonist Jack Kryznan, a man attempting to enter the mysterious metropolis of Paradiso from its surrounding wastelands. The designs and color palette are especially evocative, calling to mind Bill Sienkiewicz working in tandem with Blade Runner production designer Lawrence Paul, albeit with far more earthen tones. It’s very pretty—check out an exclusive six-page preview below. Paradiso #1 launches on December 6th.

The Midnight Event forever changed the world. Now, centuries later, Jack Kryznan arrives on the outskirts of Paradiso City, haunted by fragments of childhood memories and in possession of a mysterious device—one with the power to change the destiny of this living breathing metropolis: the people who dwell within, and the guardians who strive for and against it.
