Julia Louis-Dreyfus Announces She Has Breast Cancer, Advocates for Universal Healthcare

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, star of Veep and one of the funniest people in existence, announced today on Twitter that she has breast cancer:

For those who can’t read the tweet, here is what Louis-Dreyfus wrote:

1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one.

The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.

It’s unbelievably brave for Louis-Dreyfus not only to announce this publicly, but to advocate for others at her moment of greatest personal difficulty. Here’s wishing her, and all those who suffer from breast cancer, a speedy recovery.
