Justice League‘s Box Office Projections Are Not Looking Good

Warner Bros. and DC look to be in for a rough couple of days, as their superhero team-up extravaganza Justice League is projected to underperform in its opening weekend. Early estimates show the film opening at about $95 million on 4,051 North American screens, short of the $110 million that the studios had targeted, per Variety.

Considering Wonder Woman became one of only six films to crack the $100-million mark this year when it made $103.1 million in its opening weekend, Justice League’s projected take is nothing to scoff at. But the film’s astronomical estimated cost—somewhere in the ballpark of $300 million, Variety reports—means the stakes are far higher for Justice League, the DCEU’s fifth entry and easily its biggest blockbuster yet. If it bombs, the DCEU might be in big trouble.

As of this writing, Justice League has a less-than-stellar 40 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, a score that was questionably withheld until Thursday, Nov. 16, just a day before the film’s opening. Read our review of Justice League here. Spoiler alert: We weren’t crazy about it.
