Priests’ Katie Alice Greer Addresses Cutting Set Short After Being Heckled Onstage

Onstage at the Crossing Border Festival in The Hague, Priests’ Katie Alice Greer walked offstage early. Someone from the crowd had just yelled “play something we can dance to.” In a statement on Twitter, Greer condemns the behavior, including the appearance of two men who harassed her outside of the venue, calling her “girly” and something in Dutch she couldn’t make out. And thus was Priests’ final show of their European tour.

In her statement, Greer apologizes and explains how she’s never walked off stage early before. “I’m so deeply tired of unsolicited men telling me how to do my job,” she writes. She’s not the only one. Here’s her statement:

Zach Schonfeld wrote in his Paste review of Priests’ February ripper Nothing Feels Natural, “If Priests has a signature sound, it is anchored by singer Katie Alice Greer’s deep, exacting wail of a voice. It’s a voice that lends itself to snarled critiques—of society, of shitty men, of consumerism.” For years, headlines and fans have touted the band as redefining protest music, and they continue to lead the charge in the resistance: against Trump, against the capitalist patriarchy, against America’s bullshit.
