Netflix Renews The Punisher For a Second Season

Well, come on, if Netflix renewed the likes of Iron Fist for a second season, they certainly weren’t going to say no to The Punisher.

The extremely violent Marvel series, which follows superhero/villain Frank Castle as he seeks revenge on those who murdered his family, first premiered on Nov. 17. Despite its tepid critical reception and criticism centered on its superficial, unpleasant attitude towards gun violence, fans of the character apparently enjoyed the series enough for Netflix to green-light another go-round.

In its coverage of the renewal, Deadline notes that the show’s rollout and marketing were hampered by the timing of the Las Vegas shooting. Marvel and Netflix had originally planned a New York City Comic Con panel the weekend a man with an assault rifle killed dozens of people and wounded hundreds more in the span of ten minutes.

The show’s season two release date is unknown as of yet—the Punisher Twitter account merely released a short video (included below) saying “Season 2 Is Coming.” But they did put out a new behind-the-scenes featurette, which you can also see below. So expect Frank Castle to return sometime in the next year or two and murder a whole new batch of people with firearms, knives and his bare hands.
