Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It Star DeWanda Wise Joins Captain Marvel

Hot off the success of Netflix’s She Gotta Have It, the show’s star DeWanda Wise has landed a major role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, per Deadline.

Wise will join Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, as well as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Jude Law’s Mar-Vell in Marvel’s first female-led superhero film. There is much speculation (but no concrete information) about what Wise’s “co-star” role will be in the anticipated film.

Fans are speculating that Wise will play Monica Rambeau (aka Spectrum), a one-time Captain Marvel ally who has assisted Carol Danvers with various investigations. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct Captain Marvel, with Bloodline’s Ben Mendelsohn playing the film’s villain.

Wise’s star has been on the rise since 2017 with roles in the canceled WGN drama Underground and Fox’s Shots Fired. Now, with this role and She’s Gotta Have It’s recent season two renewal, Wise appears to be on the verge of a breakout.
