Amazon's Lore Has Been Renewed For a Chilling Season 2

Fans of historical ghoulishness have reason to celebrate today, as Amazon confirmed that its TV adaptation of creator Aaron Mahnke’s Lore podcast has been renewed for a second season. Season 1 of the series remains available on Prime Video in more than 200 countries.

It would seem that for the second season, Mahnke may be stepping down into more of a performer/host role, as Sean Crouch (The Exorcist, Numb3rs) has been announced to take over as showrunner. As in the first season, each episode will be stitched together in a unique hybrid of narration, archival footage and animation to complement the filmed reenactments. Episodes will continue to explore real-life historical cases of the macabre and paranormal, drawing both from episodes of the podcast and original stories that haven’t yet made it to the podcasted airwaves.

“Customers loved the first season of Lore for its unique blend of narrative and documentary storytelling, and we’re excited to give them another season of this suspenseful hybrid series,” said Heather Schuster, Head of Unscripted, Amazon Originals. “Sean brings great experience in the supernatural genre, and we’re excited for him to help us tell even more frightening and visually captivating stories.”

Last year, Paste visited the set of Lore as it shot in rural Georgia, visiting the episode “Passing Notes” and speaking with Mahnke about his passion for exploring the historical roots of some of our deepest fears. We also read our way through The World of Lore: Monstrous Creatures, plucking out five of our favorites from the bestiary. Personal favorite: The haunted rug, if only because it’s so damn weird.

As the show’s creator, Mahnke certainly seems proud of the renewal. On Twitter, he noted that this may perhaps be the first time a show based on a podcast has made it to a second season.

There is no premiere date yet for the second season of Lore, but maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll see some in time for Halloween.
