Courtney Barnett Announces New Album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, Releases First Single

Courtney Barnett on Thursday officially announced the follow-up to her 2015 full-length debut, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. The Australian singer-songwriter will release Tell Me How You Really Feel on May 18 via Mom+Pop MOM+POP / Marathon Artists / Milk! Records, and has shared the first single, “Nameless/Faceless” with an accompanying video directed by Lucy Dyson.

Tell Me How You Really Feel comes on the heels of Barnett’s 2017 collaborative album with Kurt Vile, Lotta Sea Lice, which was one of Paste’s 50 Best Albums of 2017.
(You can read an interview with the duo here.)

“Nameless/Faceless” is a grungy anthem that drips with indignation and sarcasm, skewering internet trolls and fretting over the real physical dangers they manifest. The chorus lifts a line from a Margaret Atwood quote: “I want to walk through the park in the dark / Men are scared that women will laugh at them / I want to walk through the park in the dark / Women are scared that men will kill them / I hold my keys between my fingers”.

Barnett and her band will play a brief series of album warm-up parties in May, tickets to which will include a copy of the album on digital, CD or vinyl formats. Check out the dates below.
