White House Communications Director Hope Hicks Has Resigned

According to the New York Times, White House communications director Hope Hicks has resigned.

Hicks was one of Trump’s few aides who had stayed with him since his 2016 presidential campaign. She will reportedly leave her role in the coming weeks.

In a White House statement, Hicks said, “There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump. I wish the President and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country.”

In response, President Trump said, “Hope is outstanding and has done great work for the last three years. She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person. I will miss having her by my side but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood. I am sure we will work together again in the future.”

Hicks had been a target of Robert Mueller’s investigation after the revelations of the president’s oldest son, Don Jr., meeting with a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin at Trump Tower during the campaign. Hicks reportedly met with the special counsel team to answer questions about the incident.

Hicks was also dating top Trump aide Rob Porter when his recent physical and emotional abuse allegations became public. This scandal led to immense scrutiny towards Trump and his chief of staff, John Kelly.

Hicks is just the latest member of Trump’s staff to resign or be fired. She joins the likes of Reince Priebus, Steve Bannon, Anthony Scaramucci, Omarosa Manigault Newman, Tom Price, Sebastian Gorka, Sean Spicer and many other former staffers.
