Leon Bridges Shares “Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand” and “Bad Bad News,” His First New Songs Since 2015

Leon Bridges Shares “Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand” and “Bad Bad News,” His First New Songs Since 2015

Grammy-nominated R&B star Leon Bridges has shared his first new music in nearly three years.

“Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand” and “Bad Bad News,” which debuted Tuesday on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on Apple Music, are Bridges’ first new songs since his debut album, 2015’s Coming Home.

They’re also our first preview of Bridges’ sophomore album, Good Thing, due out on May 4, as the singer announced on Beats 1. “Was too excited about the new songs to share just one,” Bridges wrote on social media.

“Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand” is an ornate and silky-smooth track that puts a more modern spin on Bridges’ classic R&B sound as the singer works through his conflicted feelings regarding a romantic commitment he can’t slow down long enough to make. “Bad Bad News,” meanwhile, is a jazzy, triumphant track on which a resolute Bridges declares, “They tell me I was born to lose/ but I made a good, good thing / out of bad, bad news.”

Previewing his new album on Beats 1, Bridges teased, “You have the ballad ‘Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand,’ the high-energy ‘Bad Bad News,’ but you also have some great R&B, disco, dance moments. You have some weird R&B vibes on there.” Consider us excited.

Bridges’ new singles were produced and co-written by Grammy nominee Ricky Reed, who executive produced Good Thing in addition to co-writing all of its songs. Reed was nominated for Producer Of The Year at the 59th Grammys in 2016.
