Robert Downey Jr. Unveils Full Voice Cast of The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle

There are a handful of impressive names lending their voice talents to The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle. Two-time Academy Award nominee Robert Downey Jr. announced in a tweet Tuesday afternoon the film’s full voice cast, which includes Oscar winners Emma Thompson, Marion Cotillard and Octavia Spencer, and Oscar nominees Ralph Fiennes and Kumail Najiani, among many others.

The film, backed by Universal Studios, follows the story of the odd and eccentric doctor who can talk to and understand animals. The film is based on the 1920s children’s books by Hugh Lofting and has been previously adapted multiple times before, with Eddie Murphy and Rex Harrison both playing the iconic character.

Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan penned The Voyage of Dr. Dolittle’s script, and is also directing the film. Gaghan won an Oscar for writing the 2000 film Traffic, which also won Steven Soderbergh an Oscar for directing. Joe Roth (Maleficent) and Jeff Kirschenbaum (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) are producing via their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, alongside Susan Downey for Team Downey, according to THR.

Michael Sheen and Antonio Banderas also star in the film, but play live-action characters alongside Downey Jr., who will star as the good doctor himself.

The part-animated, part-live-action film will hit theaters on April 12, 2019. See Downey Jr.’s tweet announcing the full voice cast below.
