Stephen Glover Says Taylor Swift Episode Was the “Last Straw” for Canceled Deadpool Animated Series

The fallout from the cancellation of Donald and Stephen Glover’s animated Deadpool series continued to unfold Thursday as Stephen followed up on his brother’s comments and release of a scathing meta script with his own series of tweets about the ill-fated show. While Donald’s script asked if the show was canceled because of racism, Stephen highlighted a planned episode centered around Taylor Swift as the “last straw” for the series. “There really was a Taylor Swift episode. It was HILARIOUS. And it definitely was the last straw lol,” said Glover, per TheWrap.

The claim makes sense, as Donald mentioned Swift in the now-deleted script he tweeted out on Tuesday as part of his Deadpool’s explanation of how they did or didn’t alienate their white audience. The racially charged content of the meta script was also referred to by Stephen, who stated, “our show wasn’t too black. It wasn’t really that black at all.” The brothers could be playing coy with an audience that will never see their adaptation or might be shedding light on different sides of an argument where both factored into Marvel’s decision to not move forward with the project. Either way, multiple motivations, including Disney’s impending takeover of numerous Fox networks and franchises, seem to be in play.

What isn’t in doubt is Stephen’s confidence in what he and his brother were creating. “We definitely wanted to give Rick and Morty a run for their money and I think we would have. Proud of the gang,” said Glover.
