Stranger Things Season Three Adds Cary Elwes, Jake Busey

“As you wish.” The Princess Bride’s iconic star, Cary Elwes, is joining the cast of the third season of Stranger Things, as is Starship Troopers star Jake Busey. According to Variety, Elwes will play Mayor Kline, the handsome, slick and sleazy 1980s politician who cares more about his own image than the town of Hawkins itself. Busey will play a journalist, Bruce, who has a sick sense of humor and very questionable morals.

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos made the casting announcement today at Netflix’s See What’s Next event in Rome. Sarandos recently made the decision to pull all the streamer’s films from premiering at Cannes. Netflix has had monumental success with their original films, but most notably its television shows ,specifically Stranger Things. Sarandos said the show had “20 times more tweets than all of the films released at the U.S. box office the week it was released.” He continued by saying, “Our hits are not just coming from the U.S. anymore. Our next Stranger Things could just as likely come from anywhere in the world. I have a strong feeling it could come from right here.”

Elwes has made a slew of television appearances and starred in rather B-rated films lately, with his most recent hit being 2004’s original Saw. He will star in the forthcoming Billionaire Boys Club, about a group of 1980s rich LA boys that establish a deadly get-rich-quick scam, playing artist Andy Warhol—the film also stars Ansel Elgort, Taron Edgerton, Jeremy Irvine and Emma Roberts. Maybe we can see a nice comeback for Elwes, thanks to Stranger Things.

Busey is sort of in the same boat as Elwes, as in he makes a lot of television appearances and stars in several B-rated films. He stars in the forthcoming Predator reboot from 20th Century Fox and Shane Black, which also stars Olivia Munn, Yvonne Strahovski, Sterling K. Brown and Jacob Tremblay.

Stranger Things is executive produced by the Duffer Brothers (who are currently facing a lawsuit over the show), Shawn Levy, Iain Paterson, and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps. The series stars Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and David Harbour.

No set release date for season three has been announced, but the series is set to begin filming in Atlanta by the end of the month, according to sources involved in the production.
