Solo: A Star Wars Story to Premiere at 2018 Cannes Film Festival

Looks like the origin story of one of the galaxy’s best pilots is heading to La Croisette. Star Wars will make its return to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time in 13 years with Solo: A Star Wars Story. THR has confirmed that the highly anticipated spinoff will make its premiere at the 71st annual festival on May 15, 10 days before its official theatrical release.

Solo stars Alden Ehrenreich as the titular infamous pilot with Donald Glover playing Han’s long-time buddy Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke and recent Three Billboards Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson also star in the film. Ron Howard stepped in to direct the project after the firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller last June.

Star Wars is no stranger to Cannes. 2002’s Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Revenge of the Sith both held their premieres at the festival, but remained out of competition. While it is still unknown as to which films will premiere at Cannes this year, we do know the opening night feature will be the Spanish thriller Everybody Knows, starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Howard previously brought The Da Vinci Code to the festival in 2006.

The festival runs from May 8-19 in Cannes, France and remains the largest international film festival in the world. You can watch the latest Solo teaser here.
