“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”
No word yet on how long fans will have to wait for the third season, but we know the project will be completely fleshed out, and full of twists and turns. However, once the current season is complete, we still have many more HBO shows and films to look forward to. Coming this summer, HBO will release the limited series Sharp Objects with Amy Adams, and at least two original films including Fahrenheit 451 with Michael B. Jordan and The Tale with Laura Dern. You can see our breakdown of everything HBO is adding in May here.
Coming next year, we have the return of Big Little Lies, as well as the series end of Game of Thrones. The third season of HBO’s anthology series True Detective is set to return in 2019, as well. Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley reunite outside of Big Little Lies for a new limited series called The Undoing, while J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele have a new sci-fi series called Lovecraft Country on the way, starring Underground’s Jurnee Smollett-Bell.
Westworld hails from Warner Bros. Television, with Abrams’ Bad Robot banner producing. Besides Wood, the series also stars James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jimmy Simpson, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson and Ed Harris.
